Misclassification of knowledge is a violation of this Policy and may result in content review, correction, or removal.

3.Contributor Conduct

3.1 Intellectual Honesty

Contributors must represent claims accurately, cite verifiable sources, and disclose conflicts of interest. Fabrication, falsification, or knowing misrepresentation of evidence is strictly prohibited.

3.2 Attribution

All contributors must credit original sources, prior contributors, and the intellectual lineage of ideas. Plagiarism in any form is a serious violation.

3.3 Respectful Discourse

Contributors must engage with other members respectfully regardless of background, credentials, or institutional affiliation. Personal attacks, harassment, or discriminatory conduct will result in removal from the platform.

3.4 No Malicious Contribution

Coordinated misinformation campaigns, bot-driven content submission, sock puppetry, or any attempt to manipulate the verification system is prohibited and may result in permanent ban and legal action where applicable.

4.Verification and Reputation

4.1 Expert Verification

Users may apply for verified expert status by submitting credentials for review. Verification grants additional review privileges but does not exempt verified users from accountability under this Policy.

4.2 Reputation System

Reputation scores are algorithmically calculated based on contribution quality, peer review outcomes, classification accuracy, and community standing. Reputation cannot be transferred, sold, or artificially inflated.

4.3 Institutional Verification

Verified organizations may host research groups and validate contributions from their affiliated members. Institutional verification is granted at the sole discretion of Capsule administration.

5.Content Ownership and Licensing

5.1 User-Generated Content

Contributors retain copyright ownership of original content they submit to Capsule, including Capsule Books (long-form works such as novels, light novels, self-help books, and manga) and Capsule Learning courses (the modules, lessons, and teaching material a teacher or organization creates). By submitting content, contributors grant Capsule a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and adapt the content for platform purposes.

Authors must own, or have all necessary rights to publish, every work they upload, including its text and cover art. Uploading pirated, scanned, or otherwise unlicensed copies of works you did not create is prohibited. Copyright complaints are handled under Canada's Notice and Notice regime (Copyright Act), and infringing content may be removed. Paid book features, if introduced, will be governed by additional terms presented at the time; see the Terms of Use for details.

5.2 Platform Property

The Capsule name, logo, the capsule-pill mark, the clock logo, design system, and source code are the exclusive property of Solis Holdings Group Inc. Unauthorized reproduction is prohibited.

5.3 Public Knowledge Commitment

Capsule's commitment is to public access to verified knowledge. Free-tier content will remain accessible to readers without payment.

6.Privacy and Data Handling

6.1 Data We Collect

Capsule collects only what it needs to run the platform: the account details you give us, the contributions you choose to publish, and the basic interaction data required to make features work. We do not build advertising profiles, we do not track you across other sites, and we do not sell your personal information. What we hold is encrypted at rest, and the most sensitive categories carry an additional layer of encryption applied on your own device, described below, which we cannot remove. If you buy something or make a donation, we also keep a record of it (what was bought, the amount, any sales tax, and the status of the payment), along with the country and province or ZIP code you give at checkout so that the correct sales tax can be calculated. Card details are entered directly into the secure fields of our payment processor, Stripe, and never reach Capsule.

6.2 Device-Level Encryption, and What Capsule Cannot See

Your Vault capsules (those marked Private or Shared) are encrypted and decrypted entirely on your own device, in your browser, using keys derived from a passphrase that only you know. Your unencrypted Vault content and your encryption keys never leave your device. Because of this, the only thing Capsule ever stores or transmits for that content is scrambled ciphertext, and we hold no key that can unlock it. That is a deliberate limit on our own reach: your private knowledge is protected from us, not merely by our promise not to look. If you lose your passphrase, your recovery code is the only way back in, so keep it safe: without it, not even Capsule can restore your content.

The same device-level encryption is available for private Capsule Learning courses. When a teacher marks a private course as end to end encrypted, each lesson is encrypted in the browser under a course key, and that key is shared only with the specific students the teacher invites, wrapped to each student's own Vault key. As with Vault capsules, Capsule only ever holds ciphertext for that course, and only the teacher and the invited students can decrypt and read the lessons.

6.3 Verification Documents

Documents you upload for credential verification are encrypted in your browser before they reach us and are stored encrypted. Unlike Vault capsules, these can be decrypted by Capsule's verification team for the limited purpose of reviewing your credentials, and every such access is recorded in an audit log. We use them only for verification and do not share them except where required by law.

6.4 Private Messages

Direct messages between members are encrypted in transit and at rest and are private to the sender and the recipient. We want to be precise about one point rather than overstate it: unlike Vault capsules, messages are not beyond our reach. Capsule retains a limited, safeguarded ability to access message content, and we use it only in narrow circumstances such as serious abuse or threats to safety, account recovery, or a valid legal process. We never use message content for advertising and we never sell it. We are glad to explain our messaging security in more detail on request. If you want content that we genuinely cannot read, share it as an end to end encrypted Vault capsule, encrypted on your own device so that only you and the people you choose hold the key.

6.5 Where Your Data Is Stored

Capsule is a Canadian company and your data is administered by Capsule, protected by encryption in transit and at rest. During open beta, data may be processed or stored outside Canada. We are working toward Canadian based storage in keeping with Canadian data sovereignty principles, and we will update this Policy when that move is complete. Wherever it is stored, content encrypted on your device as described in 6.2 stays unreadable to us. We are happy to discuss our security practices in more detail with institutional partners on request.

6.6 Cookies and Local Storage

Capsule uses only strictly necessary cookies and browser storage. When you sign in, we set a session cookie that keeps you logged in, along with a security token that protects you from cross-site request forgery. We also store small preferences in your browser's local storage, such as your chosen theme and any seasonal environment. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party targeting of any kind, and we do not sell or share this information. Because these cookies are essential to the service, no consent banner is required; we show a brief, dismissible notice for transparency. You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings, though doing so will sign you out and reset your preferences.

6.7 Your Privacy Rights

You remain in control of your personal information. You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete, and to obtain a copy of your account data in a portable form. Much of this you can do yourself from your account settings; for anything you cannot, our Privacy Officer will help. By using Capsule you consent to the collection and use of your information described in this Policy, and you may withdraw that consent at any time by closing your account, subject only to information we are required by law to retain.

6.8 Data Retention

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it to operate the platform and to meet our legal obligations. You may close your account at any time from your settings. When you do, your account is deactivated immediately, and we permanently delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days. Residual copies held in our secure, encrypted backups are then purged within a further 90 days as those backups are cycled. We keep certain records for longer only where the law requires it: financial records connected to purchases and donations, which Canadian tax rules require us to retain for up to six years, and any information we are ordered to preserve for a legal proceeding or a safety investigation. We hold such records only for as long as that obligation lasts, and then we delete them. Public contributions you have made to the encyclopedia may remain available under the licence described in Section 5, but we will dissociate them from your identity on request wherever this is practical.

6.9 Security and Breach Response

Protecting your information is fundamental to how Capsule is built, and we defend it with strong, layered safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest and the device-level encryption described in 6.2. We take that responsibility seriously and design the platform so that your most sensitive content stays protected even from us. In the rare event that a security incident ever affected your personal information and created a real risk of significant harm to you, we would act quickly and openly: we would contain the incident, notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires, and keep proper records of what happened and how we resolved it. And because your most sensitive content is encrypted on your own device, a breach of our systems would expose only scrambled ciphertext that no one, including us, can read.

6.10 Privacy Officer and Complaints

Capsule has designated a Privacy Officer who is accountable for our compliance with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You can reach the Privacy Officer at privacy@joincapsule.org with any question, access request, or complaint about how we handle your information, and we will respond promptly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to bring your complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

7.Enforcement

7.1 Violations

Violations of this Policy may result in: content removal, reputation penalties, temporary suspension, permanent account termination, or referral to legal authorities where applicable.

7.2 Appeals

Users may appeal enforcement actions through the appeals process outlined in the Help Center.

7.3 Modifications

Capsule reserves the right to modify this Policy with notice to active users. Continued use of the platform after modifications constitutes acceptance.

8.Jurisdiction

This Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the applicable federal laws of Canada. Disputes arising under this Policy shall be resolved in the courts of Manitoba.

9.Support and the Future of Capsule

Capsule’s knowledge is for everyone. The core encyclopedia, including reading, contributing, classifying, and verifying knowledge, is and will remain free.

Capsule also offers optional premium environments: visual themes for the whole platform that you buy once and keep on your Capsule account. They are purely cosmetic. A premium environment changes how Capsule looks, never what you can read, write, classify, or verify, and every environment can be previewed free before you buy. Prices are shown in Canadian dollars and are plus any sales tax that applies where you live (such as GST, HST, PST, or QST), calculated from the location you give at checkout and shown in full before you pay. Purchases are governed by Section 6 of the Terms of Use.

During our open beta, voluntary donations are also accepted for a limited time to help cover running costs and ongoing development. Donations are in Canadian dollars. Capsule is not a registered charity, so donations are not tax deductible and we do not issue tax receipts. A donation does not purchase access or confer any special benefit.

All payments are processed securely by Stripe. Card details go directly into Stripe's secure fields and never reach Capsule's servers; we keep only a record of what was paid for, the amount, and whether the payment succeeded.

Further premium features, including Capsule+ and organization tools, are coming soon. These will be optional additions layered on top of the always-free core, and we will give clear notice before any paid feature launches.
