Capsule is built on the idea that knowledge is alive: it changes as evidence changes. We treat corrections not as an embarrassment to hide but as the system working. This page explains how to report an error and how we fix it, openly.
Every capsule carries a Report control for flagging a problem, and any signed-in member can submit counter-evidence against a claim or raise the issue on the capsule’s Talk tab. Reports that include a source or specific evidence are the most actionable, and we encourage them. For legal or rights matters, see the Policy and Terms.
Capsules are collaborative and editable. When a correction is warranted, the capsule is updated, and the change is recorded permanently in its Edit History, which shows who changed what and when. If the correction alters the claim’s confidence, its classification is changed as well (for example to Contested or Debunked), and that transition is recorded in the Confidence History with the reason. Corrections are therefore made in the open: the prior state is preserved in the record rather than silently overwritten.
A change in a capsule’s classification is not buried. It is reflected immediately in the classification badge that every reader sees, and in the Confidence History timeline near the top of the capsule, so a meaningful correction is visible at a glance rather than hidden in a log.
We act on credible reports as promptly as our resources allow. Straightforward factual errors can be corrected by the community directly. Serious, disputed, or sensitive cases are escalated to the Capsule team, which reviews the submitted evidence; where a classification is settled after review it may be locked, while evidence submission stays open so the record can still be revisited if the facts change.
We correct errors regardless of the subject of the claim or who is affected by it, we do not remove a correction to protect any interest, and we aim to make the history of a claim, including its mistakes, permanently inspectable.
